The purpose of this study was to test the Observing Abduction Model (OAM) on the task of animal figure recognition. OAM is the process model of questioning phenomenon representation and phenomenon observation. To test the model, 312 fourth grade students were initially sampled from two schools in Korea. Finally, 299 students (152 females, 147 males) who did not correctly answer on the first step were selected out of the initial students. The observing ability test and four types of the animal figure recognition tasks were developed and administered to the subjects. The results of this study validated OAM which explain that the process of the representation of questioning phenomena is as follows: representation of a questioning situation, representation of an experienced situation that is similar to the questioning situation, representation of experienced phenomena of the experienced situation, comparing the questioning situation with the experienced situation, and borrowing the experienced phenomena as questioning phenomena from the experienced situation.
