Background : The internet contains enormous informations in various fields and is therefore called ‘sea of information’. It helps obtain quickly health related information including stroke. But a lack of evaluation and oversight appear to result in inaccurate and misleading stroke-related publications on the internet. Methods : To assess the status of stroke information on the internet in Korea, a search for Korean word, indicating ‘stroke’, was performed using 10 leading Korea internet search engines. Identified web sites were assessed regarding the quality of content, authorship, design, and functionality. Results : The number of web sites identified ranged from 53 to 106. The average search yielded nearly 80 web sites listing for 'stroke’. The number of web sites listing for ‘stroke’is as many as that for ‘dementia’ or ‘hypertension’. Among Korean words indicating stroke, ‘Jungpung’ most frequently appeared on Korea internet sites. The frequency of appearance in search engines is not well related to quality of stroke-related web sites. Conclusions : The quality of stroke-related web sites in Korea is varied. There is need to develop a high quality of stroke-related web site and to unify stroke-related Korean words. Korean Journal of Stroke 2001;3(2): 119~123
