This thesis aims at focusing Aaron's attack and mockery on Roman society and Roman rites. As the play progresses, Aaron becomes an important being who attacks and ridicules the fictitious ideology of Roman society and Titus. Aaron seemingly has no strong aggressiveness toward Rome. However, he hopes to be continuously loved by Tamora, his illegal lover and Rome's empress, and hopes to enhance his own status in Roman hierarchy by identifying him with Tamora as well. His aggressiveness originates from such hopes of Tamora's affection and his increased status. Rome's morality is paralysed. Rome's spiritual corruption is represented by Titus' repeated killings from Alabus to Mutius, his son, and even Lavinia, his precious daughter. Titus murders Alabus to solidify Roman society, however, he kills Mutius only because his son downgrades his honor. Furthermore, he kills raped Lavinia because she reminds him of his dishonor. These killings show that Titus totally loses genuine humanity. Aaron situates himself as a brave aggressive subject to the Roman society and rites. Unlike Titus, he sacrifices himself for his son's life. He becomes the subject of the narrative of his evil doings so that he can steal the power of Lucius, a new Rome's leader, by making him a powerless listener. And he plans all the plots of raping and dismembering Lavinia, the object of Roman men's fantasy and their spiritual comfort, to deprive Roman men of their deep-rooted fantasy about chaste women. By these accomplishments, he succeeds in attacking and ridiculing Rome's unreasonable rites and Titus' inhumanity. And he becomes an independent and untouchable being existing outside the Rome although he is killed by Romans.
