This thesis studied that the role and effect of confession(self-disclosure) in the parish setting, an important Christian counseling site. Historically Christian counseling has been developed according to three stages of classical paradigm, clinical pastoral paradigm and communal contextual paradigm. And its counseling site has been changed in many different ways. A Christian counselor should be alert in the change of each counseling site, and be justified to the change. If some Christian counselors neglect the change of counseling situation and site, they will be a failure in their counseling job. Confession is the telling of our sins to an authorized priest or to healing group members for the purpose of forgiveness and mental restoration. And confession is well known as one of effective counseling skills to be helpful in each counseling site. So Christian counselors can utilize confession in his/her serving counseling site. In Chapter II, the characteristics of Christian counseling site, and the healing and restoring effectiveness of confession in the site were presented. In Chapter III, the statistics of opinions of church pastors and elders on the facilitating of confession as a counseling skill were covered. In Chapter IV, the researcher suggested six agendas to overcome for the effective use of confession in the Christian counseling site. The result of research showed the different opinions of church pastors and elders on the helpfulness of confession as a counseling skill. But most of church leaders recommend Christians to participate in a helpful healing group through confession made out of church, not inside of it. In conclusion, there are present obstacles in the facilitating of confession in the counseling area of church setting. So we need much wisdom to use confession as an effective counseling skill.
