In this article, the author explores the history of Korean Christian (pastoral) counseling and makes periodical distinction into three periods: (1) introduction and translation period, (2) specialization period, (3) competition and autonomy period. Analyzes the background of growth in Korean Christian(pastoral) development, the research trends and counseling centers.
Based on these analysis, the author suggests that the Korean Christian (pastoral) counseling needs to deal with the following issues: cooperation among the Christian(pastoral) counseling associations, internationalization, increased sensitivity to the counseling and professional ethics, church based counseling center, supervision, focused research, development of the spiritual assessment and diagnostic tools, specialization of counseling practice, uprooting the creative counseling tool from the Korean tradition, networking with secular counseling associations, increase the job opportunity after graduation, developing the standards for the Christian(pastoral) counseling license and curriculum.
