This article positively illustrates the change of rural community and peasantry in DPRK going through war and agricultural collectivization during the 1950s. Agricultural collectivization in North Korea was developed on the basis of wartime mobilization. The background of collectivization was collective labor expanded by war. The subject to promote collectivization positively was also a group of veterans or victims of war. Through this, socialistic farm village had the significant feature of quasi-wartime system. The traditional authority in farm village was dismantled through collectivization, and family-oriented economic unit was also disappeared. To introduce new agricultural techniques made the initiatives of farming shift from the elderly to the youth. In addition, woman's voice became higher than the past due to the lack of man's labor force. The family was no longer the unit of economic life, and there appeared socialistic collective places of residence. The traditional customs and perception of society of peasantry were criticized through collective-farminizing. The theory of divination based on topography and folk beliefs were seen as old, and finally broken down. Instead, ‘people' as collective subject was being recognized. The tradition, however, was not thoroughly taken to pieces. They have preserved necessary tradition, which comes to get new color. To respect parents are encouraged as 'public morals'. The traditional collective labor, such as 'sogyuri 'and 'pumassi', is the foundation of 'bunjo(分組)' which is the smallest labor unit of cooperative.
