(Background and Purpose)As the paradigm was shifted from mechanistic view of world to complex systems science, we have watched all organic natural systems into one complex system, and find the system characteristics that can be applied to a collection of all the parts. Based on this recognition of age, Sou Fujimoto makes a space which can accommodate complexity and multiplicity like nature beyond the direct imitation. This study analyzes Sou Fujimoto architecture from the point of view of self-organization which is the core characteristic of complex systems. Through this analysis, this study reveals what is the nature of 'forest of the future' that he wants to create and seeks possible alternatives of architecture in contemporary society.(Method)First, the concept and the characteristics of self-organization are examined. And this provides a framework for the analysis. Secondly, his point of view of self-organization is examined on the basis of his writings and lectures. Based on these two, this study analyzes his works, comes up with the characteristics of self-organization, and ultimately, reveals what the nature of his self-organized spatial composition is.(Results)Sou Fujimoto has read a book about dissipative structures and complex systems in order of Ilya Prigogine in his youth Interestingly, thought that this would be the answer to the complex and diverse modern era, and has created a self-organized space through a bottom-up order naturally. Sou Fujimoto explained about the idea of 'forest of the future' as an alternative to the modern architecture through various lectures with the theme of 'Primitive Future' and writings with the theme of 'When the Architecture is Born'. the self-organizational perspective can be analyzed into three big reasons. - 'Space as a part' in perspective of Self-similarity, 'Space before becoming differentiation' in perspective of Totality, 'Unintentional space' in perspective of Emergence. Sou Fujimoto's works were analyzed into 3 big self-organized characteristics. First, his works were made up of nonlinear structure by self-similar fractal composition and vitalization of spatial experience by topological superposition. Secondly, his works had a continuous flow through self-organized differentiation and had multi-centric collectivity through innumerable relationships between parts. Finally, his works made blurring order through multi-layered ambiguousness and formed emergent self-organization through resonant interaction.(Conclusions)Consequently, this study analyzes that the nature of 'forest of the future' means the space of possibility that are nonequilibrium state through feedback between parts and interaction with environment, in other words, the space which creates complexity and multiplicity like nature.
