Myths reveal that the unconsciousness of the ethnic groups has been transmitted hitherto from generation to generation through their biological heredity and culture. Especially, there are some idealized objects those groups desire for in the heroic myths. There are also many characteristic symbols in the images of heroes. In this study, such images of Alpomish who is regarded as a representative hero in the Uzbek epic poems as well as in the heroic myths are analysed. The rite of passage Alpomish should go through in the process of becoming a real hero symbolizes the obstacles Uzbek people had to overcome in order to unify the tribe and to make a state. The episode that Alpomish was born after his father’s pray to God represents the desire of the people who was waiting for a hero that could carry on the line. In this respect Alpomish was destined to be a hero. Thus, in his childhood, he got the name meaning a hero after having shown his ability of archery and in his youth he saved his fiancee who was in danger in enemy’s country and made an unification of his tribe. However, he had to undergo another trial that he should save his father-in-law detained in Kalmyk. In his way to Kalmyk he fell into a trap by old woman Surhail and was confined in a dungeon for seven years. It shows the hero’s experience of another world. Through this experience he could be reborn as a real hero who could lead a tribe. He returned his home country and defeated the opponent. Finally, he successfully reunified the tribe and lived in peace.
