심청서사무가는 동해안 별신굿의 한 순서로 중요하게 연행된다. 별신굿의 특성상 공동체 단위의 평안과 복을 비는 마을굿이라 할 수 있으며 특히 어촌의 생활과 관련이 깊다. 따라서 심청무가는 눈을 뜬다는 주술적 목적을 바탕으로 눈병의 예방과 치료, 개인의 안녕, 무탈과 풍어를 비는 제의로 불리어진다. 심청무가는 소설본을 바탕으로 서사가 이루어져 있지만, 연행이라는 측면에서 관객의 공감을 얻기 위한 다양한 전략을 구사하고 있다. 본 논의는 심청무가의 전승 맥락과 연행예술적 특성을 다룬 것으로, 정리하면 다음과 같다. 먼저 심청굿의 형성을 맹인거리에서 시작된 것으로 보았다. 따라서 심청굿의 완결된 구조는, 굿의 의도 설명과 신격 호명-심청무가의 연행-맹인거리의 연행-온수물로 눈씻기 과정으로 이루어진다. 또한 심청서사 중 전반부의 비극성이 확대되고 후반부가 축소된 것도 맹인거리에서 봉사가 눈을 뜨는 내용이 이어지기 때문이라고 보았다. 이러한 과정에서 눈병을 낫게 하고 눈을 뜨게 하는 신격은 심봉사로 점차 부각되었다. 후대로 갈수록 신격은 심청, 심봉사, 곽씨부인등으로 확대되고 있다. 한편 심청무가는 판소리의 영향을 받아 구송 중 판소리 성음이나 내용이 들어가는 부분이 있는 점도 발견된다. 판소리 장단이나 고수와의 관계, 말과 노래의 교체방식 등도 모두 판소리적 영향을 받은 것이라 보인다. 다음으로 심청무가는 관객들에게 매우 공감력있는 사설과 퍼포먼스로 중요한 레파토리가 되었는데, 이를 연행예술적 관점에서 살펴보았다. 무녀는 춤과 노래, 이야기를 바탕으로 굿을 이끌어가는 주체자이다. 여러 가지 퍼포먼스를 연행하면서 신격으로서의 위치, 위로자, 치료자, 예언자로서의 역할을 수행한다. 서사진행면에서는 심청서사는 물론 맹인거리가 함께 심청굿의 서사가 되면서 눈을 뜨고 점을 치는 장면까지가 서사로 확대되어 있다. 심청무가의 서사는 굿판의 특성상 연행 중 빈번히 단절되기도 한다. 이외에 심청굿의 무대와 객석, 악사의 역할 등을 논의하였다. 심청무가는 굿판에서 제의와 축제의 조화성, 공감과 위로의 예술성, 연행의 다양성 등을 바탕으로 공연되고 있으며, 판소리와 달리 서민적이고 투박한 문학성, 음악성을 바탕으로 현장의 주민들과 함께 울고 웃는다. 이러한 측면은 심청무가의 독자적 공연예술성을 나타내는 것이라 할 수 있다.

Simcheong shaman narrative song is performed as a procedure of beolsingut [exorcism] on the east coast. As characteristics of beolsingut, it can be called a village gut ceremony praying for the safety and luck of village people. It is specifically related with life of fishing village. Accordingly, Simcheong shaman narrative song is gut ceremony praying for prevention and treatment of eye diseases, based on exorcistic purpose to open eyes, safety of individuals, and big catch of fish. Simcheong shaman narrative song is narrative based on the novel, but, as it is designed to be performed before the audience, it uses various strategies to appeal to the audience. This study deals with the traditional context and characteristics as performing art of Simcheong shaman narrative song. The discussion can be summarized as follows. First, this study viewed that Simcheong ritual started in the blind people’s street. Accordingly, the structure of Simcheong ritualt consists of the followings: explanation of the thesis of ritual; invocation of god; performance of Simcheong shaman narrative song; performance of blind people’s street, washing eyes with warm water. It also viewed that the reason why tradegy of the former part of the Simcheong narrative song was enlarged, and the latter part of it was shrunk is caused by the fact that it succeeds to the scene where the blind man opens his eyes in the blind people’s street. In the process, the god who cures eye diseases and makes blind people open eyes is slowly becomes Simbongsa. In later years, godliness is expanding to Simcheong, Simbongsa, and Madam Gwak, etc. On the other hand, it is discovered that, influenced by pansori, sound and contents of Simcheong shaman narrative song have some similarity with pansori. Its relationships with pansori beat and with drummer and method of rotating narration and song seem to be influenced by pansori. Simcheong shaman narrative song with very appealing narrative and performance, has become an important repatory. This study examined it in the performance art perspective. Dancing woman is the leader of gut based on dance, song, and story. While giving various performances, she plays the role of consoler, curer, and fortuneteller. In the aspect of epic process, not only Simcheong shaman narrative song, but blind men’s street become narrative of Simcheong ritual and it expands to the scenes of eye-opening and fortune-telling. The narratives of Simcheong shaman narrative song are frequently cut during performances due to the characteristics of guk. Besides, this study also discussed roles of stage, audience seats, and musicians. Simcheong shaman narrative song is performed based on harmony of ritual and festival of gut, art of compassion and solace, and variety of performance. Unlike pansori, based on popular and unsophisticated literary and musical characteristics, performers of Simcheong shaman narrative song cry and laugh with local residents. In this respect, Simcheong ritual hows its unique performance art.
