This study was purposed to introduce raw data processing of accelerometer-measured physical activity data as a part of the 2014 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and to demonstrate its application by analysing moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) in Korean adults. Accelerometer-measured physical activity raw data processing includes selection and application of epoch length, MVPA intensity count cutoff point, wear/non-wear time algorithm, minimum wear time on a day, and missing data imputation. This study selected 1-minute epoch, Troiano (2008)’s intensity cutoff point (MPA≥ 2,020cpm, VPA≥5,999cpm) and non-wear time algorithm (60 or more minutes of 0cpm, with allowance of <100cpm up to 2 minutes), and 10 or more hours of wear time on a day. Missing day-level data were replaced by MVN multiple imputation using Stata9.2 (StataCorp, USA) to produce 100 complete data set. Age- and sex-adjusted weekly MVPA was 96.87 minutes, and the adherence rate to the WHO aerobic physical activity guideline was 21.29%, which was substantially lower than the adherence rate estimated by GPAQ. This discrepancy suggests the need for parallel use of objective and subjective measures of physical activity in KNHANES as a national-level surveillance.
