Recently, the government is increasingly interested in the social economy. The purpose of this paper is to measure the efficiency and the determinants of profitability using Stochastic Frontier Analysis(SFA) for 158 social enterprises. The results of the empirical tests are as follows. First, the average efficiency in 2016 was lower than in 2015, and higher for firms with longer certification periods. Second, males had higher average efficiency than females, and manufacturing companies showed higher average efficiency than nonmanufacturing companies. Third, the longer the business experience before certification, the lower the average efficiency. The results of analyzing the determinants of profitability are as follows. The higher the efficiency index, the more positive the effect on profitability. and the longer the period of business operation before certification, The younger the representative, the lower the dependency on borrowing, the more positive relationship with profitability.
