This study was to investigate the effect of swimming exercise on the expression of inflammatory factors, anti-inflammatory factors, angiogenesis factors and FNDC5 expression in cardiac muscle of the obesity-induced rats by high fat diet.
Thirty SD rats were assigned to 8 weeks of normal diet and high fat diet. Thereafter, they were classified into three groups (normal diet; ND, high-fat diet; HFD, high-fat diet and swimming exercise; HEx). The swimming exercise was performed at 28℃ for 60min/day, 5times/week during 8 weeks.
The expression of adiponetin, adipoR1, pAMPK, VEGF, FNDC5, TNF-α, NF-κB, IL-1 and IL-6 in the cardiac muscle was determined by Western blotting. The level of TC, TG, LDL, HDL and irisin in the serum was determined by ELISA.
Body weight, epididymal fat weight and serum concentration of TC, TG, LDL were significantly increased in HFD group compared ND group, and significantly decreased after 8 weeks swimming exercise (HEx group). In addition, swimming exercise showed a positive effect on the expression of inflammatory factors and anti-inflammatory factors in cardiac muscle. In particular, swimming exercise induces the expression of FNDC5 in heart muscle and the increase of blood irisin concentration.
These results indicate that swimming exercise improves obesity and increases inflammatory factors and FNDC5 expression in cardiac muscle.
