The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze differences between the phonological aspects of South Korean standard pronunciation rules (1988), North Korean pronunciation rules (2010), and Chinese-Korean standard pronunciation rules (2016).
The differences in the South Korean, North Korean and Chinese Korean standard pronunciation rules mainly include the composition of pronunciation rules, general rules, and pronunciation of vowels and consonants.
Among these differences, what is relatively controversial is the pronunciation of ‘ㅚ’, ‘ㅟ’, ‘ㅕ’, ‘ㅖ’ and the pronunciation of the final double consonants ‘ㄼ’. These are not only pronounced differently among the three countries but are also commonly confused in each country.
This paper only investigates the differences in the pronunciation rules and their causes in South Korean, North Korean and Chinese-Korean. It is regrettable that it can not establish a unification method of standard pronunciation method. It will be made the next task.
