To Assess the physical work capacity of middle-aged men, recreational aerobic activities carried out prior to and following (after 3 months) among 70 healthy middle aged men 30 to 59 years. Treadmill maximal exercise test was done according to Bruce protocol strictly until symptom limited level. Expired airflow CO₂ and O₂ tensions at appropriate mixing chamber were continuously monitored with rapidly responding gas analyzers. These measurements were recorded directly as well as processed by micro-computer, on-line to give maximal oxygen uptake and ventilation volume. Resting and peak heart rate, exercise tinge monitored continuously by ECG. The results obtained were as follows. 1. Body weight decreased 2.8㎏ of the 4th decade and 3.2㎏ of the 5th decade, 3.1㎏ of the 6th decade. 5th decade and 6th decade showed significant differences.(p<0.05) 2. Resting heart rate decreased 0.9 bs/min of the 4th decade and 3.7bs/min of the 5th decade, 2.6 bs/min of the 6th decade. 5th decade showed significant differences. (p<0.05) 3. Maximal heart rate increased 21 bs/min of the 4th decade and 11 bs/min of the 5th decade, 10bs/min of the 6th decade. All decades showed significant differences.(p<0.01, p<0.05) 4. Total exercise duration increased 38 secs. of the 4th decade and 48 secs. of the 5th decade, 42 sets of the 6th decade. 4th decade showed significant differences.(p<0.05) 5. Maximal oxygen uptake increased 4.8㎖/㎏/min of the 4th decade and 5.2㎖/㎏/min of the 5th decade, 3.0㎖/㎏/min of the 6th decade. 4th decade showed significant differences.(p<0.05) 6. Maximal Ventilation volume increased 16.2L/min of the 4th decade and 13.4 L/min of the 5th decade, 5.8 L/min of the 6th decade. 4th decade and 5th decade showed significant differences.(p<0.01. p<0.05)
