The correctional facilities is a very important facility for a nation as it promotes sound social recovery of inmates through improvements of inmate rehabilitation and communication, further stabilizing the lives of the general public. Our nation"s correctional facilities, however, have remained antiquated due to various factors, such as shortage and aging of facilities. The purpose of the research is to find ways to improve the space of buildings where complex functions can be efficiently accomplished by conducting research to harmonize the essential meaning of the construction and facilities of the outdated correctional facilities. The method is to identify basic concepts through data survey of correctional facilities. This will include examining of history, laws, and institutions in addition to analyzing problems and complaints of current inmates and other correctional facilities overseas in order to present improvement propositions. Through this study, a proposed improvement method for correctional facilities should include inmates’ visual connection to the outside world while being monitored securely by employees through double security in front of the hall, and to ensure inmate privacy and comfort in single rooms. In addition, proper amenities are needed to provide a diverse range of activities like sports, work, and religious activities and to provide proper medical care. The aspiration for a correctional facility is not simply a place that provides convenience to inmates, but a haven that allows reflection and true rehabilitation.
