Recently, the Ministry of Education established a policy to operate a flexible curriculum for regions and schools by utilizing school facilities and sites in response to the decrease in the school-age population in Korea. Accordingly, a project to build a school complex facility that can be used by both students and local residents was implemented in cooperation with the local community. Since school complex facilities are part of the social infrastructure closely related to daily life, it is necessary to consider elements for activating the local community. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze school complex facilities and suggest directions for improvement and development as public facilities that can be easily used by local residents. Through previous research, we analyzed the social infrastructure and school complex facilities closely related to daily life and extracted the evaluation items of ‘Locational, Regional, Communal, and Integrative Elements.’ We conducted a field survey focusing on three school complex facilities located in the metropolitan area and drew conclusions. The analysis results are as follows : First, in terms of organic matter, school complex facilities were characterized by considering education according to the characteristics of each student’s grade. In the case of the elementary school site, a program centered on play activities that enable creative learning was organized, and in the case of the middle school site, a program was organized to help students explore their career paths. Second, in terms of location, school complex facilities need to consider a guide system that distinguishes school facilities and movement lines in consideration of approaches of various routes and expresses each movement line. Third, in order to activate local communities, it is necessary to support various forms of local community activities by providing public services including daily life infrastructure in the space itself.
