This study was planned and conducted when the South and North Korea relationship hit bottom. After North Korea fired several long-distance missiles and implemented a few nuclear bomb tests, South Korea and the U.S. government stepped up economic and military pressure on North Korea. Thus, the menace of a second Korean war was spread widely and South Koreans in favor of Korean unification were evaluated as being at a historical low. Cognition of North Korean tourism also was not in a good state. A survey was conducted from September 1 to September 9, 2017, to people from Changwon city, Kyungnam, using the convenience sampling technique. Out of 300 surveys distributed, 298 were returned, and then 282 samples were analyzed. In this study, factor analysis, multiple regression analysis, and cluster analysis were applied. As for the results of the study, firstly, the factors of awareness of Korea unification were derived. Secondly, a causal relationship between in favor of and awareness of Korean unification and cognition of North Korean tourism was investigated and confirmed partially. Thirdly, there were two groups, one which had a relatively positive attitude about unification and North Korean tourism and the other which was smaller and had relatively negative attitudes. These results have never been reported or confirmed up to now. A few future studies are suggested.
