Most of people believe that all kinds of nonverbal expressions are innate and common to all human beings. However, we should pay attention to the differences in the communication process of inter-cultural nonverbal display rules, because the multi-cultural differences often can be lead to much misunderstanding in our tourism industry fields. It is said that when we have a talk with others in our daily life, only less than 35% of the dialog can be communicable by using verbal language, and more than 65% by nonverbal language. Especially nonverbal language, such as gestures, positions, eye-movements, facial expressions and bodily movements, have an important functions which replace, contradict, emphasize, complement, and regulate the ideas, emotion or attitude that they attempt to convey with the language. The aim of teaching English for tourist attendants is to elevate the communicative competence, which commands the knowledge of social rules of nonverbal language. Hence, this article implies that English teaching for tourist attendants need to involve understanding and using both appreciate verbal and nonverbal communication.
