The Mt. Paekdusan area should be developed as environment-friendly mountain resorts. In addition, the development has to be sustainable. To do this, the sound and viable tourism systems are essential to preserve and maintain this particular area as sustainable environment and tourism resources. Against this backdrop, the author makes the following recommendations. 1. It is suggested that the forestry parks and ecological parks be developed as sustainable tourism resorts in order to preserve the wholesome environments of the Paekdusan area. 2. It is recommended that the development of the camping and picnicking areas be minimized, thus reducing the wastes by the campers and picnickers, which might damage the growth of the forestry in the area. Besides, it is desirable that the systems for cleaning the wastes and for monitoring and watching the environment be established. 3. It is recommended that the spas and fitness centers be developed as year-round resorts for the health-conscious tourists. 4. It is suggested that tourism educational institutes or universities/colleges expand their curricula to accomodate the needs of the workers in the field of tourism and hospitality industries. 5. It is suggested that since it is feasible that the development of golf courses may bring about damage both to the environment and the forestry, more research on the preservation of soil be conducted prior to the building of golf link. 6. It behooves the Chinese government to ameliorate bureaucratic rules and regulations and to revise the current tax laws unfavorable to the foreign investors so that they may invest more in building tourism facilities and hotels, which are prerequisite to the development of both Heping Resorts and Songjiang Resorts.
