In this study, 372 elderly aged 65 or more were asked too they felt about their self integration and their self esteem. The subjects were also asked about (1) their socio-familial background and (2) how satisfied they were or how positively they agree with the main 20 items of self esteem. The background variables were gender, age, marital status, education, religion, housing type, number of household members living together, and average amount of income income earned by all the household members in last 12 months. In this study, age has a significant impact on self esteem overall and in particular, the community residents in their 70s show the highest self esteem over most items, and the extreme ol group aged 80+ show the lowest scare. This result indicates somewhat maturation process in later life; as they grow older after retirement they can adjust into mature old life with a wider range of social interactions, and therefore they can feel higher self esteem than their younger stage of retirement in 60s.
