The purpose of this study was to articulate and propose methodological characteristics and appropriations of the so-called qualitative approach to leisure phenomenon in leisure research. In doing this, three qualitative methodologies including phenomenological approach, ethnomethodology, and symbolic interaction were discussed in terms of leisure experience and research. The following things were articulated as the result of this study: First of all, the qualitative approach to leisure study are directed its main focus into the experiential nature, dynamic flow, and directness of leisure experience itself. Second, the characteristic of such methodological approaches is that the theoretical foundation of those methodologies are based on the participant`s subjective experience. Third, the qualitative methode would be provided many possible sources with the quantitative approach to leisure phenomenon in terms of methodological process and tools. In conclusion, the qualitative approach to leisure study should be utilized in order to investigate the nature and meaning human being`s leisure experience since its directness, dynamics, and meaningfulness.
