The purpose of this paper is to study Willa Cather’s major novel My Antonia through the perspective of ecology. Cather didn’t explore a human-centered development of nature, but a nature-centered one. She depicted a Antonia Shimerdas as a truly ecological heroine. And descriptions of nature, such as pastoral landscapes, change of season and agricultural scenery, are mainly delivered from the eyes of Jim Burden, the sole narrator of the novel. In this book, nature and landscapes are not merely a background, but they are filled with the significance of humans. Cather tried to show the vision of the future that harmonizes with nature through an ecological relationship with nature and others. She attempted to find a solution to the environmental destruction and ecological crisis of modern society and took nature as an element of an eco-vision.
