Southern Question is one of the most serious and precipitous problems of modem Italian society. The question, so called Mezzogiomo or Italian version of regionalism, has been understood as an unresolved mission of today even when Italy has achieved a status of industrialized economy. This paper tries to provide an alternative to the regionalism and local issues in the era of globalization from the sociological standpoint. Throughout the research we have known that Italian regionalism has unique aspects and is transformed into an imagined community. Besides, Southern Question concomitantly makes us consider Northern Question. This is because underdevelopment of Southern Italy was not an independent affair, but a result of dependency and peripheralization by the North during industrialization after Risorgimento. As to the civic society thesis of Putnam, theoretical concern drew attention in the early 1990s, hit there are a series of difficulties for the unitary generalization. Rather we arrived to a temporary conclusion that there needs sane empirical evidences through social class analyses to the Southern Italian society. In sum it is necessary to build identification of Mezzogiomo under the dimension of localization, given that 21st century is the era of globalization and European integration as regionalization.
