This study aims to explore the financial factors of major convention centers in Korea and suggest managerial implications by working on the financial ratio analysis. Convention centers were originally established to promote trade in Korea. However, the functions of the convention centers have currently expanded to include not only conferences/exhibitions but also economic and cultural aspects. This research compares the financial ratio of 4 major convention centers in Korea with 3 foreign convention centers in Germany and Japan. In addition, such ratio is compared with average financial ratio for the domestic service industry in Korea. The data is analysed by four indicators: ‘profitability’, ‘stability’, ‘growth’ and ‘activity’. The results shows that the ‘stability’ is considerably high, but the ‘profitability’ is low. Though this seems caused by externality that affects convention centers, continuous effort is necessary to increase the ‘profitability’. As for the ‘growth’ indicator, there is a significant gap among centers, and noticeably, the large extent of variance by years. For balanced and stable management, it is essential for convention centers with considerable difference in growth by years to secure stable sales increase by concentrating their efforts on developing or attracting new events. Furthermore, great disparity on ‘activity’ among centers implies the demand for their gradual improvement. Based on those implications through financial ratio analysis, convention centers are required to improve the sales by strategically developing and attracting various events and at the same time, rationalize the rental price at a similar level of foreign convention centers. Given that sales by years show large imbalance, furthermore, it is recommended that convention centers search to secure sales by decreasing imbalance gap.
