The concept of antarābhava (中有), in the frame of saṁsāra, may be unfamiliar. It is antarābhava that has the tendency to crave for being born. As the previous life’s karma affects the reincarnated life, antarābhava affects the beginning of a new life, as well as the karma of the past life. The thought one has just before death is important because the last thought determines whether one will be reborn as good or evil in the next life. Those who have desire will want to be born again. The fool continues to enter a womb of the mother and repeats birth and death. Antarābhava is an analogical inference that we cannot directly perceive.
As we start to see in Samgyeyukdo (三界六道), a mysterious point of view is an attempt to understand the concept of antarābhava as a scientific and ontological perspective. This arose through the propagation of early Buddhist texts, which had a tendency towards propaganda. Currently, the term ‘propaganda’ has a negative connotation due to its association with the spreading of ideas containing a mixture of false and exaggerated elements. This contentious term is used because it cannot support objectivity through blind religious beliefs. The term also includes some assumption that Samgyeyukdo philosophy can be fiction. Nevertheless, it had a tremendous influence on the propagation of early Buddhism. Moreover, antarābhava follows the pattern of this propaganda and has intimate contact with it by creating a perfect cycle of saṁsāra and karma. Antarābhava craves for eternalism and gives an ethical paradigm to Buddhists through saṁsāra.
