The "Chikyuzu" witten by Osamu Dazai is the short story, as for it, " Sei yo ki bun" (1715) witten by Hakuseki Arai was made an original text. Precedent researchers do not accept the value of the "Chikyuzu". because it isn"t too different from an original text. "Sei yo ki bun” is a record that Hakuseki A. who was jushin of Ienobu, the 6th Tokugawa syogum was going to note down the size of the world which was known by Givanni Battista Sidotti, Italy person missionary. But the sentences weren"t the style of the record and including the style of novel only partially. There are a lot of same parts as the technique of Dazai"s novel. That was why the people say that it is a novel without a difference in comparison with an original work. But when we read it carefully in details, we can find wit and irony in the novel.
In the "Chikyuzu", it was witten, by a novel language, projected through Hakuseki A. who obeyed the system of the Japanese Shogunate, not tragedy of martyrdom but the nation, which was in a limited frame and behind the world trend, system of Japan and left from world situation. And also the idea of writer is expressed by the words of some direct expression. That is possible to read a concept of O.Dazai who ridicules the trend Japanese literary world and Japanese society. When it"s read so, we can said that "Chikyuzu" is the parody work which was remade "Sei yo ki bun" and including caricature.
