This study aims to propose a multi-layered Functional Category analysis for the genitive subject construction (GSC) of Korean, generally adopting the Delimiter Phrase (DelP) analysis for noun phrases suggested in Yoon (1990). Within the TP-CP-NP-DP-DelP analysis for Korean GSCs, it has been claimed that Korean GSCs are licensed by the syntactic complex of V-T(aspectual morpheme(s))-C and a nominal head and the delimiters such as mace, chocha, kkaji, and so on. It has also been proposed that the inherent [+specificity] feature of the genitive subject in a GSC is checked in the specifier position of DelP. Specifically, the genitive subject which is base-generated in TP-CP first moves to the SPEC of DP for case and EPP. It further moves to the final landing site, the SPEC of DelP, for the [+specificity] feature checking. On the basis of the analysis of considerable data, this study could possibly demonstrate a probability that the DelP analysis could provide a reasonable solution to the difficulty explaining Korean GSCs. This study was concluded with some suggestions for future studies on the DelP analysis.
