The purpose of this paper is to analyse the style complexity which occurred in English writings of Korean university students. The results of this study showed that there are statistically significant correlations in the three style indices of university students’ English writings. However, the correlations between the four different types of English writings and style complexity did not turn out to be statistically significant differences in the three style indices. In addition, while the correlation between the proficiency of English writing and style complexity showed statistical significance, the correlation between high and low level of English learners and style complexity did not show statistical significance partly because each student uses different sentence structures in his or her writing and has a different frequency of errors in the categories. Pedagogical suggestions are presented to apply the findings of this research to the teaching of writing in ESL and EFL contexts.
