The importance of Russian literature in modern China was widely acknowledged, Chinse intellectuals had translated Russian literature into Chinse with ardor. This article focused on Chinese reception of the three Russia novels by modernist, Worker Shevyref and Sanine by Mikhail P. Artsybashev, The Pale Horse by V.Ropshin, which translated into Chinese in 1920s.
The Chinese translators, Zheng Zhen-duo, the founding member of Literary Research Association and Lu Xun, the most important Modern Chinese author and translator, interested in the Russian nihilist hero because characters of the Russian nihilist hero was of help in the Chinese revolution. The Russian nihilist hero strongly rejects old morality and authority in society. Thus the Chinese revolutionary intellectuals regarded it as one of the mental sources of the Russian revolution that was destroyed the Tsarism, the model of the Chinese revolutionary youth. Furthermore, the Chinese revolutionary intellectuals had an opportunity to diagnose the problem of their revolution and revolutionaries through the mirror of the Russian nihilist hero. it offers to be better understand the process of acceptance of Russian nihilist revolutionary, the hero of this three Russia literature, in China.
