This paper is aimed at Jeju society undergoing rapid population changes as rapid progress in recent population influx. In this paper, we examined the characteristics of the social network shown in the settlement process of the people who moved to Jeju instead of Seoul and the metropolitan area, Busan, in the industrial era. Therefore, this study looked at the past experienced population fluctuations and community changes focused on the local adaptation of migrants as a starting point for researching the current community. This paper focused on the social network of Honam immigrants who settled in Jeju, the reason is that first, while Korea"s industrialization progresses in the 1960s, Jeju was a typical rural area of the hot air blew modernization and people in rural areas of Honam had suffered a severe recession considered Jeju as a land of hopeless dreams come true. For the research methods, the opinions from the members of Jeju migrant’s community associations and the persons interested in each Jeju migrant’s community association were collected through in-depth interviews. This research represents that the characteristics of Jeju immigrants and their community adaptation during the industrialization period of Korea. Summarizing the results of this study are as follows. First, this study showed that traditionally hyangwoohoe was a resolving mechanism of the joys and sorrows among the same place of origin but gradually its political role becomes larger. Honam immigrants were out to settle in Jeju based on the high level of collective integration and the collective integration organization is hyangwoohoe. It was able to be identified in this research that Honam people were able to grow a strong local group in Jeju society based on the collective integration and their hyangwoohoe. Results of this study will be able to give certain implications for policy provided for domestic and foreign migrants in the community.
