The purpose of the paper is to investigate the effects of theme-based teaching to develop English proficiency. The purpose of learning English is to be proficient in English. When students are familiar with various themes about the world, they can carry the conversation successfully. Through authentic materials such as films, the small talks can be more practical to apply and learn English. In this study, the researcher is going to create theme-based teaching through Chef. Through this film, students can be familiar with cooking and culinary arts. Eventually they can describe cooking procedure and different recipes in English. They can apply their knowledge in the real situations. Through this movie, students can learn about the Latin culture in the United States and their speech style. It will be great opportunity for students to learn about specific melting pot which represent American society. There are various useful expressions which can be applied in the real life situations.
