The main purpose of this study was to make suggestions for describing Korean grammar more effectively, especially focusing on the final ending ‘-dani’. For this purpose, we first examined ways of explaining meanings of the ending and example sentences for the ending described in four Korean-teaching textbooks. For the examination, we established five categories: the way of addressing titles, the way of describing meanings, the way of explaining grammar rules relevant to the ending, the way of structural patterns of example sentences, and the appropriateness of example sentences for the explanation of grammar rules. It is interesting that all the selected textbooks explained meanings of the final ending ‘-dani’ as a surprise, a wonder, or a question regarding a certain fact; however, the titles were different from one another textbook. On the other hand, the primary concern of the textbooks in explaining grammar rules was about ways of combining verbs with adjectives or nouns, thereby making it difficult for learners to understand grammar rules. More interesting findings of and some suggestions for describing Korean grammar were discussed in this study.
