The Study is aimed to evaluate of the Tang Poetry expressed in the 『OubeiShihua』 by Zao-Yi of Qing (China). Zao-Yi is a representative poet and critic, and his book 『OubeiShihua』 takes a high position in the history of literary criticism on Chinese poetry. The 『OubeiShihua』 is distinguished itself from other poetry books in that it selects main writers in Chinese history and focuses deeply on their poetry world throughout each chapter poet by poet respectively.
Zao-Yi has a developing view of Poetics and comments on the Tang Poetry with his views of Innovation and Spirit, which gets out of then revival ethos. The 『OubeiShihua』 has criticisms on 10 representative poets in China including four poets of the Tang, Li-Bai, Du-Fu, Han-Yu and Bai Ju-yi. Among the book, there are 19 sections on Li-Bai, and 18 on Du-Fu, 14 on Han-Yu and 27 on Bai Ju-yi respectively.
This paper review s the Zao-Yi’s comments on Poetics first. Secondly, it analyzes his evaluation on Tang Poetry in respect of 1) creation theory 2) theory of style 3) theory of work. And thirdly it reviews the wiring style of the 『OubeiShihua』in two ways ; 1) empathizing the poetic characteristic via comparisons and 2) ascertaining historical research based on facts.
