Objectives：The aims of this study was to find psychopathological predictors of body dissatisfaction using Symptom Check List 90-Revision(SCL-90-R) in young Korean adults.
Methods：Three hundreds and seventeen young healthy normal subjects, who were university students, asked to fill out the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Examination-Self Report(Korean version of BDDE-SR ; K-BDDE-SR) and Symptom Check List 90-Revision(Korean version of SCL-90-R).
Results：Out of the 317 subjects, 123 were male and 194 were female. In analysis of total subjects, interpersonal sensitivity subscale was selected as statistically significant variable. In male group, depression subscale was selected as statistically significant variable. In female group, interpersonal sensitivity and somatization subscales were selected as statistically significant variables. In higher score group, paranoid subscale was selected as statistically significant variable.
Conclusion：Our study shows that increased interpersonal sensitivity, somatization, depression, and paranoid subscales of SCL-90-R may be factors related to body dissatisfaction. If a psychiatric patient complains of symptoms like self-deprecation, self-doubt, marked discomfort during interpersonal interactions, depression, somatic symptoms, and paranoid ideation, which are related to those subscales, it is helpful to evaluate body dissatisfaction for the patient.
