Objectives : The aims of this study was to find appropriate models to predict Body Image disturbance Severity with T-Score of SCL-90-R Subscales in a young Korean adults.
Methods : Three hundreds and seventeen young healthy normal subjects ,who were university student, asked to fill out administered the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Examination-Self Report (Korean version of BDDE-SR ; K-BDDE-SR), Symptom checklist 90-Revision(Korean version of SCL 90-R). We calculated T-scores of SCL-90-R subscales standardized by sex and age. We log transformed K-BDDE-SR Total score with Natural logarithm. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was used. Dependent variable was log-transformed K-BDDE-SR and independent variables were T-scores of SCL-90-R subscales. We analysed data four times, for total subjects, male subjects, female subjects, and subjects who seem to have relatively severe body image disturbance, respectively. The statistics are carried out by SPSS 22.0.
Results : Out of the 317 subjects, 123 were male and 194 were female. In analysis of total subjects, T-score of Interpersonal Sensitivity subscale was selected as statistically significant variable that increased log-transformed K-BDDE-SR total score. In analysis of male subjects, T-score of Depression subscale was selected as statistically significant variable and increased log-transformed K-BDDE-SR total score. In analysis of female subjects, T-scores of Interpersonal Sensitivity and Somatization subscales were selected as statistically significant and increased log-transformed K-BDDE-SR total score. In analysis of subjects having relatively severe body image disturbance, T-scores of Paranoid was selected as statistically significant and increasd log-tranformed K-BDDE-SR socres.
Conclusions : Our study shows that increased T-score Interpersonal Sensitivity of SCL-90-R may be a risk factor of increased body image disturbance. But for male people increased depression subscale may be a risk factor and for female people increased Interpersonal Sensitivity and Somatization subscales may be risk factors. For people having relatively severe body image disturbance, increased paranoid subscale may be a risk factor. This result suggested that psychopathological mechanisms for increased body image disturbance may be different according to sex and severity of body image disturbance.
