The purpose of this study is to extract the meaning and characteristics of chromatic color terms in the New Testament of Christianity, and it will help to understand the correct meaning of Biblical colors as well as cultural background of Bible. This study was carried out by literature review. Korean Revised Version, New Korean Revised Version, New King James Version, New International Version, Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece 28(UBS4), Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia 4th edition were selected for comparative analysis. The results of this study are as follows. 1)Chromatic color terms of the New Testament was shown in the 24 verses. They were highly found in the book of Revelation because colors have been used to describe the visual illusion of John. 2)Chromatic color terms were Red-related 44.8%, Purple-related 34.5% Green-related 17.2%, Yellow-related 3.5%. That indicated red- or purple-related color terms dominant color words. And the more diverse expressions were found in the English Versions than in the Korean Versions while the most diverse expressions were in the Greek Version. 3)Red-related terms, which were pu"r, kovkkino", ejruqrov" in Greek, used to describe cloth, robe, sky, animals, wool, breastplate and they meant king, devil, luxuries, disaster, religious purification etc. 4)Purple-related terms, which were mostly porfuvra in Greek, used to describe cloth, robe, dressed and they meant social status and economic wealth like as king, rich man, luxuries. Πorfuvra seemed to be reddish purple while uJakivnqino" to describe breastplate did to be bluish purple. 5)Χlwrov" in Greek was used to express the green. Χlwrov" was color term used to have emphasis on vitality of plants, but if it described animal not plant, it meant death. 6)Yellow-related term was found once in Revelation as qeiwvdh" in Greek. The term was expressed as color of sulfur so that it meant disaster and judgement.
