The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of regular combined exercise on bone mineral density(BMD), health-related fitness, and blood osteocalcin in menopausal women. 20 women in the menopause who were physically healthy and did not have special medical condition were enrolled and randomly assigned into combined exercise group(n=10) and flexibility exercise group(control group, n=10) a week apart. Combined exercise included cycling exercise and elastic band exercise and flexibility exercise included yoga. All the exercise programs were carried out three times for a week for 16 weeks. BMD, health-related fitness, were evaluated before(0 week) and after(16 weeks) and resting blood sample were assayed before and after. In the result of this study, grip strength, sit-up, trunk flexion forward and 6 minutes walking were increased significantly after exercise and body fat percentage was decreased significantly in combined exercise group. The BMD in thigh part increased significantly in combined exercise group after exercise. however, blood osteocalcin concentration was not significantly different between the two groups. In conclusion, regular combined exercise had positive effects on BMD and health related fitness in women in the menopause, therefore combined exercise was considered to be effective on maintenance and promotion of health in menopausal women.
