This study has performed research on the fruits and vegetables in the food type and the distribution stage in the production process regarding the temperature profile required for the implementation of the cold-chain of fresh agricultural products. In order to reduce the loss generated from the food distribution stages, it is necessary to maintain the appropriate temperature for each item. As a pilot study in implementing the temperature profile which becomes the basis, the temperature was tested in shipping on the farm products package, one of the new distribution routes of agricultural and livestock products which are recently in the growing trends. As a result of attaching RFID active tags inside-out refrigerated and non-refrigerated packaging boxes and measuring the temperature by every 20 minutes, the median value of the measured temperatures from inside and outside of non-refrigerated boxes were all past the optimum storage temperature boundaries. The refrigerated boxes on the other hand, were confirmed to have temperature differences between the boxes’ top and bottom side. However, it is currently a difficult situation in controlling the environmental conditions in shipping and distribution, and thus in order to reduce the agricultural product loss incurred in handling, the role of packaging is very important. The implementation of the cold-chain of fresh agricultural products is necessary through the development of appropriate temperature management guidelines and the standard process including the efficient packaging methods for future quality maintenance.
