When Buddhist monks that perform filial piety are called Buddhist monks of filial piety, the traditions in which Buddhist monks of filial piety appear can be called traditions of Buddhist monks of filial piety. Since all the traditions of Buddhist monks of filial piety present protagonists that were from a lower class and broken home and underwent psychological conflicts with regard to remarriage and entry into Buddhist priesthood, those common features can be regarded as requirements of traditions of Buddhist monks of filial piety. If there are psychological conflicts in the protagonists, there must be close connections between the system of filial piety ethics and their psychological conflicts. It is needed to figure out the composition of filial piety ethics to understand its system. There are two major compositions of filial piety ethics, namely “Jieun-Boeun” and “Odo-Dosaneg,” and the combination of the two compositions leads to the formation of “Hyoseonssangmi” system, in which psychological conflicts are not obstacles to the composition but rather hold a significant part in Buddhist ethics of filial piety. There are Confucian, shamanistic, and Taoist elements in Buddhist ethics of filial piety. It is estimated that Ilyeon must have introduced many different religious elements based on the “universalism-based ideological tolerance” and advocated “Buddhist ethics of filial piety in the system of Hyoseonssangmi.”
