The present study aimed to explore and identify the motivations and life well-being factors, which make married women select, Modified Extended Family. In-depth interviews with six married women residing close to their parent’s house were executed. Collected data were analyzed from the explanation-building of case study. Motivations of married women for selecting Women-oriented Modified Extended Family were identified as ‘expectations of emotional, instrumental, and financial assistance’, as well as the ‘role of household manager’, ‘other people’s influence’, and ‘expectations of future value’. Married women were shown to be satisfied with life after settling down close to their parents. They recognized ‘convenience’, ‘expectations of emotional, instrumental, and economic support’, ‘intergenerational communication’, ‘optimistic conjugal relationship’, and ‘minimal influence of the family-in-law’ as life well-being. Participants were shown to have positive recognition on the acceptance of modified extended family in search for emotional, instrumental, and economic support with expectations of continued interaction, especially for instrumental support. Based on such findings, it is expected that the tendency to accept Women-oriented Modified Extended Families would sustain. The significance of this study is exploring the transition of families from patriarcal to matriarcal center by examining the decision making motives and welfare of female-centered Modified Extended Family.
