The metaboloinics is the studies on metabolites, and by-products of the chemical reactions that continuously go on in every biological system. Metabolomics, the chemical profiling of (all) cellular metabolites by their identification and quantification, is a rapidly expanding strategy with advanced analytical techniques. Recent developments in mass spectrometry technology allow high resolution data to be collected on both MS and MS/MS analysis at fast speed at the same time. This enables the use of high resolution high mass accuracy MS data for more confident chemical composition prediction of chemical metabolites and the same high quality MS/MS data for structure elucidation, confirmation and identification of the predicted compounds. The HRMS with chromatography systems allows for the screening of targeted and non-targeted substances with high selectivity, providing comprehensive and reliable chemical profiling. Additionally, chemometrics combined with chromatographic tools has provided an efficient and powerful tool to differentiate potential targets based on similarities and differences of the metabolites. This metaboloinics study provides valuable information to identify and characterize the overall metabolites in herbal plants, and also to explore bioactive metabolites.
