The purpose of this study is to explore the aspects of recording semantic information about lemma Chinese characters in Hunmongjahoe and Jajeonseogyo. Meanings of Chinese characters written in Korean and Chinese annotations show the semantic information about lemma Chinese characters in materials explaining meanings in Chinese characters. `While Hunmongjahoe has meanings of Chinese characters in a upper category for a general meaning in meanings of Chinese characters written in Korean, and a different type for Chinese annotations explaining more specifically and intimately, Jajeonseogyo has the same type for both meanings of Chinese characters written in Korean and Chinese annotations. Based on this system, the aspects of recording semantic information in Hunmongjahoe and Jajeonseogyo are as follows. First, meaning categories of meanings of Chinese characters written in Korean are often different. In general, Jajeonseogyo shows more detailed subcategories of meanings of Chinese characters written in Korean than Hunmongjahoe does. Second, more than two lemma Chinese characters are explained as the same meaning of Chinese characters written in Korean in Hunmongjahoe but as the separate semantic information in Jajeonseogyo. Third, the number of meanings of Chinese characters written in Korean about Chinese characters also shows a difference. Hunmongjahoe shows one single meaning of Chinese characters, whereas Jajeonseogyo describes over two meanings. Fourth, the semantic information appears differently because each focuses on different meanings about the same lemma Chinese characters. This results show that Hunmongjahoe maintains its conservativeness, and reveals for the first the semantic information fit for characteristics of each category containing lemma Chinese characters. However, Jajeonseogyo distinctly reveals renewing of meanings of Chinese characters by describing elaborate meanings of Chinese characters compared with Hunmongjahoe. (Kyungwoon University)
