This study aims to identify the perception of Chinese character and Chinese character education of the elementary Chinese learners at universities. Chinese character (simplified character) is one of the difficult factors to educate in the elementary Chinese classes due to growing number of students who lack the basics for Chinese characters recently. Therefore, in this study, the perception survey with self-created questionnaire was conducted to identify the ideas of elementary Chinese learners on Chinese character and Chinese character education. The survey results were classified into ‘the perception on teaching method of Chinese characters’, ‘the perception on Chinese character (simplified character)’, and the perception on Chinese character education, and, in particular, it analyzed the difference in the perception by majors. The results of this study can be used as basic data to set the direction and method of Chinese characters education in Chinese education in the future.
