The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of accepting western canon and the sublime beauty of modern children’s literature focusing on 『A gift of love』that is Pang Chong-hwan’s children’s literature as a translation. Pang Chong-hwan accepted the western canon, reproduced the reality of children all over the world tragically in 『A gift of love』, and selected and set works to save it in the grammar of these works in common. He shaped the unique sublime beauty by combining a melodramatic form with the transcendence of the material world as a theme. He compared children with adults in the world of moral extremity in the process of translation, and described emotions exaggeratedly to highlight horrors at the cost of lives and the process of salvation. He passes the senses where the language is inadequate by using symbols such as an interjection, a dash and an ellipsis, etc. and maximized the emotional effect to be conveyed to readers. His uniqueness different in its original or double translation appeared clearly in this description.
However, this researcher understood aesthetic ‘surplus’ which is the characteristics of melodramatic form as the writer ’s deliberate strategies for the reproduction of sacred worth.
unlike the existing discussion of degrading Pang Chong-hwn’s value with the terms of ’tearism’, ‘angelism’ ‘heroism’. In addition, when romanticism via the West or Japan was mixed with the discourse of Cheondogyo and Pang Chong-hwan’s work, the unique sublime beauty of exploring life and human truth, goodness and beauty could be formed. It could be different from romanticism of the West or the characteristics of 『Red bird(赤い鳥)』which represents Taishogi’s sentimentalism in combining infinite philosophy with the value of humans and the theory of ethics. Through the above discussions, the researcher tried to show the results of emphasizing the writer’s creativity and unique aesthetics shown in Pang Chong-hwan’s children’s literature as a translation, 『A gift of love』beyond the perspective of diffusionism of prior research.
