Introduction and accpeptance of the modern culture bagan so earlier in Incheon than other localities, and popular music was the one of the modern culture. The modern theater system in Incheon that was a background of popular music appeared before 1900. Local record sellers not only distributed popular music records but also set up its performance. However radio broadcast and popular music that was current in the locality by broadcast did not advance independently in Incheon. It's able to be explained that the less spatial restriction of media, the stronger influence of media center, Seoul and the less independence of Incheon. Influence of Seoul was exerted on performance type of popular music in Incheon after early 1930's. Many large performance groups of Seoul did not come to Incheon during their tours, because popular music consumers in Incheon was considered as the equality with that in Seoul. In fact, a visit to Seoul to attend a popular music performance was a little burdensome, but was not impossible. Popular musicians born or bred in Incheon before 1920's were Kim Heungsan, Lee Hwaja, Muk Haenang, Jeon Gihyeon and Koga Masao. Life of the popular musician was related with modern history of Incheon.
