This research was conducted to derive the necessity and validity of family life education by conducting in‐depth interviews on the psycho‐emotional conflict experience which youths children of immigrant women remarried through international marriage may suffer in the family life within the remarriage through immigration.
The results of this research are as follows:
First, the sense of loss due to the dissolution of the previous marriage and the fear of family disintegration in immigrant youths had no negative effect on the psycho‐emotional conflict within the Korean remarried families. Second, the experience of the absent care of immigrant youths had a negative effect on the psycho‐emotional conflict within the Korean remarried families. Third, the language and cultural difference between immigrant youths and the members of a remarried family had no effect on the psycho‐emotional conflict with the Korean remarried families. Fourth, the most important relationship of immigrant youths among the remarried family members was with their newly born half siblings, preceded by their parents. The nurturing attitude of the step father was the most crucial element in the youths’ adapting to the remarried family life.
The implications of family life education for them can be derived through the research results. First, it is necessary to implement family life education with which the parents of immigrant youths can understand the developmental characteristics of adolescence for the parents of immigrant youths. Second, it is necessary to implement family life education which can help immigrant youths to be faithful to the newly granted role as a member of the remarried family. Third, it is necessary to implement family life education to all the members of a remarried family on the conflict management which deals with the conflict and stress within the family of immigrant youths.
