Currently our world is facing a high level of terrorist threat. While Al Qaeda is already something we are used to hearing about, a new massive murder machine also known as the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Levant, and under a number of other different names, has emerged in the midst of the chaos of intervention in Iraq and a civil war at the territory of Syria. The first and the foremost duty of the international community is to stop a flow of new recruits crossing the border between Syria and Turkey on a daily basis. Jihadists use various ways to attract as many recruits as possible. One of the peculiarities of IS is a huge amount of new fighters, which includes Europeans and citizens of other countries outside the Middle Eastern regions, coming to Syria to fight at the side of the IS. This article aims to analyze whether IS recruiters use brainwashing techniques and, if yes, what kinds there are. It also tries to answer the question of why people join IS.
