Our society has gone through many changes moment to moment, and the speed humans think is not harmonized with that of changes in culture and s pace, they experience the phenomenon of cultural lag. At the present when culture conflict, cultural coexistence and cultural modification take place simultaneously with the exchange of various cultures and social changes in order to overcome these issues, instead of reckless development, it is necessary to preserve unique cultures, but at the same time, `space regeneration` reflecting the stream of the times is necessary, too. In addition, `space regeneration` has a value of social and cultural coexistence as a cultural approach and it is judged that new cultural approach, research and analysis would be necessary for architecture that suffers from functional disconnection by realizing cultural convergence through applying the concept of a meme, a cultural gene which is continuous and evolving itself. This study will analyze and define the characteristics of a monumental space, a space of cultural memory as a monument of memory by memetic interpretation through a meme, defined by a concept of philosophical science, focusing on the cases extended to urban regeneration as it spreads and evolves in terms of meme. This study has significance in that it analyzes structural characteristics according to the evolutionary step of a meme, and its ultimate objective is to produce basic materials for studies from a new cultural approach in studies focusing on sustainability, one of the most important issues in the field of modern architecture.
