This study was to investigate the effect of team building intervention on exercise participation of elderly women in swimming class. The research participants were 52 elderly women and they randomly divided to team building intervention group and control group. In addition, 3 sport psychologists and 2 swimming lecturers participated in developing team building program for elderly exercise participants. Team building program consisted of 3 steps which were program development, application, and effectiveness examination. The program went trough 6 weeks and 3 times a week(total 18 sessions). Team building program was developed to influence on 3 psychological factors that were team environment(team naming, team T-shirts wearing), team structure(individual position, group norm), and team process(interaction, communication). The participants responded on GEQ questionnaire and in-depth interview. The data were analyzed with paired t-test and content analysis. The results were as follows: firstly, team building intervention on elderly exercise participants had positive effects on interpersonal relation, communication, and community spirit in intervention group. Secondly, the level of GEQ on intervention group was significantly higher in post intervention than pre-intervention compared to control group. In conclusion, team building intervention for elderly exercise participants had effects on increasing group cohesion for enhancing exercise participation.
