The purpose of this study was to investigate how low-intensity exercise and elk velvet antler administration affect genes expression including FoxO1, MyoD, myostatin and PEPCK in skeletal muscle. Exercise was performed consisting of treadmill running at 8 m/min and 0-degree inclination for 60 min/day, 5 days/week, during 12 weeks. Elk velvet antler (50 mg/kg/day) was administered by gavage to Sprague-Dawley rats. One group of subjects was performed with only exercise which was divided control group(CON). Exercise group(EX), elk velvet antler group(EV) and the other group were performed with both elk velvet antler administration and exercise(EV+EX). In EV+EX, the mRNA expressions of MyoD at both of soleus muscle(SOL) and gastrocnemius muscle(GA) were increased compare with EX. In EX, the mRNA expressions of myostatin were significantly increased compare with EV an both of SOL and GA. The revelation of mRNA expression of PEPCK at GA was significantly increased in EV+EX compare with EX. After analyzing with real time-PCR, this experiment results is suggesting us that taking elk velvet antler during exercise EV+EX in SOL are considered to be an improvement for exercising capabilities as they EV+EX affect into a gene of PEPCK and MyoD which involves exercising capabilities.
